I am a diabetic. My right foot has two ulcers that have been giving me trouble healing. I am taking an antibiotic, bactin, and my sugar is normal. My right foot has been swollen for about a month and a half. Both my primary doc and my ped have seen the swelling and have not givin it much attention. Recently, my foot has swollen up to twice or three times its size. My leg has started to swell quite a bit and there is a vain that is very tender to the touch from the bottom of my foot all the way up to my crotch. Should I be concerned?

Hi,
This definitely is a thoughtful situation. By what you are describing your ulcers might be infected and the painful vein might indicate an early gangrene. I would advise you to consult your doctor immediately or get a second opinion. The ulcers should be treated and if there is any slogh it should be removed. If the diabetic foot is not stopped at this stage then it might have to be amputated once the gangrene sets in.
In the meantime keep the ulcer areas clean. Apply a local antibiotic cream to the ulcers.
