Greetings:

I'm a legal secretary/paralegal ....in answer to you question - "No" - pharmacists cannot legally loan someone medication -

However, if the prescription bottle has a valid refill label on it, they can fill same without the doctor's consent.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Bright Blessings.

Peace, Love & Happiness,

Well in the past my Pharmacist provided me with enough medication to make it through the weekend when my doctor was late getting the prescription in.
Well this week my Pharmacist had a guy filling in. He said it was illegal to loan me medications and that he could loose his license. I have been on these same meds for 5 years and we have been using this Pharmacy for 28 years. So that means when he(Pharmacist) loans me pills that he is breaking the law?

Yes-your pharmacist is doing you an illegal favor-knowing that your MD is going to write the Rx for you and he can cover it- The other pharmacist is not willing to put his license in jeopardy-the other is.
