(Not a Health Question?)

After PAP scare
Sent to Health Experts March 03 11:00 PM

I had my annual female check-up on Tuesday, (3/1/05) and have had "abnormally heavy bleeding" ever since. Should I worry, should I contact my doctor, or should I go immediately to the E.R.?

Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),

I was just finishing up writing you the post just below, and read your reply....go to ER.  ESPECIALLY IF THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MORE THAN A COUPLE HOURS.  (Below was my original reply.)  Best wishes.

Abnormal heavy bleeding is called menorrhagia.  If you are soaking through one or more pads or tampons every hour for more than a couple hours, SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT  IMMEDIATELY.   (Also, if you are passing large blood clots along with your flow.)    If your bleeding is not as heavy as described above, I still recommend you call your MD first thing in the morning.  Many complications can occur if this persists, and only your doctor can give a proper diagnosis.
