Often hematomas will drain out on their own and no intervention is necessary, or the hematoma will be reabsorbed by the body. At other times the doctor must do an aspiration to remove the blood. Hematomas after hysterectomy are fairly common with up to 7-10% of women having them. If you are having heavy bleeding you will need to go to the ER.
