I a 5 months post op from a total hysterectomy.   At my 6 week post op visit, a possible "Hematoma" was spotted. My Dr said to watch it for 3 - 6 months. I often have spotting and recent bright red bleeding. My Dr can't see me until 12/5. Could you shed some light, please?...

Hello,

Often hematomas will drain out on their own and no intervention is necessary, or the hematoma will be reabsorbed by the body. At other times the doctor must do an aspiration to remove the blood. Hematomas after hysterectomy are fairly common with up to 7-10% of women having them. If you are having heavy bleeding you will need to go to the ER. Here is some more information about complications after hysterectomy. Please let me know if you have any questions.
