Question

Doctor, Please help me with some information

Sent to Health Experts December 19, 2007 7:16 a.m.

Doctor,

Please help me with some information about cervical dysplasia. I am a worried father and at the other end is my daughter, 24 years old, with no kids, yet. I am living here and she lives in Europe, Romania. Recently she was diagnosed with “Cervical Dysplasia”, type LGSIL. The HPV test showed type 31and type 54. Colposcopy check revealed two white spots. There are two kinds of medical advices that she received there:
a)     The abnormal cells present in LGSIL usually return to normal on their own within 18 to 24 months so, don''t bother yet, just keep it under observation.
b)     To have a LEEP procedure.
My daughter is now confused and scared because the big difference of opinions and the physical impact on her. My questions are these :
1.     Please let us know if there are other tests out there to reveal the need to remove the outer layer of cervical cells, in her situation.
2.     Please let us know what is the difference between LEEP and LLETZ , in her situation.
3.     Is she too young

Doctor,

Thank you for your answer. Somewhat, my question #3 got to you incomplete. The last part of my message is this : " 3. Is she too young for A LEEP or LLETZ procedure ?
Our family situation needs a pertinent answer.
Thank you very much for your time, help and understanding.
Respectfully,
Florin Bonteanu."
So, please tell me, is she too young for LEEP or LLETZ procedure ?
I understand that between LEEP and LLETZ, your opinion is that LLETZ is better or superior ?
Thank you again for your time and help.
Sincerely,
Florin Bonteanu.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Hi,
You are most welcome.
Both LEEP and LLETZ aor OPD procedures i.e. donot require admission, also donot cause much pain if anesthetised properly. She is not young for either of the procedures. LLETZ is better than LEEP, but it depends on the area involved. If the cervical area involved is large then LEEP is better but if it is small the LLETZ is better.
Regards,
Dr. Gupta
