You may still have swollen membranes block the opening of the eustachian tube. Decongestant nasal sprays, oral decongestants or oral antihistamines may relieve nasal congestion and allow your eustachian tube to open up.

Reply to Lindie's Post: I have already taken oral decongestants and they are not working. Has anyone ever gone deaf from an ear ache or ear infection? I maybe freaking out but I dont have the money to go to the doctor so I kinda need a GOOD answer. =(

Well, it does take a lot for a person to go deaf. My husband personally spent over 2 years with a constant ear ache as well. Intermittent of not hearing due to this. After several different ENT doctors he finally found the right one with the right cure.

The membranes may still be swollen. If you have also tried the decongestants then you may need to get an antibiotic. Depending where you are in the stage of this ear infection it is possible it could rupture. But honestly without doing a visual of your ear canal it is hard to say.. there are some OTC ear drops you can try as well, but if it's severely infected it may cause more damage if you don't get antibiotics.

Hope this helps.
