Sent to Health Experts June 18, 2006 5:03 p.m.

i just brougt my mother who is 61 years old to the emergency room. because she was complaining of dizziness, and light headedness. while in the emergency room they took a catscan of her head. The results of the catscan showed a cyst on the cerebellum. She has to go for an MRI.

Is this considered a brain tumor? Is it treatable? more directly what is it? and what caused it?

Hello

Unfortunately there is no way to answer these questions until further testing is done. They will need to determine what kind of cyst it is, before determining the cause or the treatment. Some people are born with these and they never give a problem.

Hopefully they are also testing her for other things that can cause dizziness. These would be an inner ear infection or dehydration as two examples.

It is possible but most brain tumors are solid rather than cyst like. Try to be calm, and be there for your mom. The answers will be coming and she will need your support.

I truly hope it is something that can be explained easily.
