Are there any studies to support use of the KegelMaster 2000 for improving vaginal tone? I'm concerned I may injure myself with too much resistance.

Reply to Christy Hammond's Post: After using the KegelMaster I experienced minor cramping (it came in waves). I haven't used the device in over a week and the cramping has stopped. I don't know if this cramping is normal. My concern is that with too much resistance, I may be causing scar tissue to develop which would affect flexibility. After using the device for about a month, I didn't really notice any toning of my vagina (or any of the other purported benefits. Neither I nor my husband can tell if I'm contracting the PC muscle during sex.

There is certainly controversy over the effectiveness of Kegal exercises in treatment of urinary incontinence and sexual benefits. Journal of American Medical Association published findings on behavioral vs drug treatment for urge incontinence which seems to support the effectiveness of behavior therapy (Kegals). Judge for yourself:

Proponents of biofeedback and exercise physiology assisted Kegal's site articles and research at:

One article called: The Bastardization Of Dr. Kegel's Exercises
strongly supports Biofeedback assisted Kegal exercise, citing Kegal's original study among other sources.

Your product was developed to meet the proposed need for biofeedback, and exercise physiology as a method for learning and performing Kegal exercises with optimal results. The Company claims support from this research. I have requested their published research data via email, but have not received a response yet, and could find no other independant research studies for the Kegalmaster specifically.

As a Nurse I would warn you to use proper cleaning and storage of your Kegalmaster. Contamination and infection is probably it's greatest risk. The cramping may be related to muscle strain or fatigue. If you take measures to protect yourself from infection the Kegalmaster could be approached as any exercise equiptment involving resistance to build muscle tone. (Moderation and proper use)

That is my interpretation of the studies I reviewed. Your personal experience combined with information through the links provided in your Answer should allow you to interpret the studies' results and make an informed choice.

Good luck to you. Please let me know if
If the JAMA article link will not open. I can forward it via email. I will also forward any response I receive from KM 2000.
