Things I would suggest may have already been started as you have the
best resource already- a nutritionist and 2 family members! Are
there any other family ,members that could stand to lose a little and
that would accompany her on this journey? What made her start to
lose at this particular time? Does she have any other health
problems?
Be supportive, acknowledge small accomplishments (such as not
gaining despite not losing perhaps), be sure the beverages do not
contain sugar (many folks don't realize this as a huge caloric intake),
find some very low cal snacks like carrot sticks and other veggies with
a fatfree dip for taste and pleasure, be sure she's involved with the
purchase of the foods she will be eating. Be sure to introduce
some healthy exercise once whe is able to participate. Water
exercise could be good as the weight will be less of a problem in the
water. Perhaps a family member and she could join a club for
exercise?
How is your grand daughter handling all this? Has she bought into
the plan? Are there any types of activities that she could be
rewarded with (low cost and good for the health)?
