Hello,

Physical therapists and doctors are always looking for ways to help total hip replacement (THR)patients get back on their feet as soon as possible. Walking is the best way to build strength in the legs and hips. But walking is difficult after THR. Patients can't put full weight on their new hip for some time.

I would talk to you surgeon about begining any type of exercise program to assure it is an option for you. especially in view of the fact the partricular excercise machine you are questioning vibrates. It should be ok, however, your surgeon needs to give you the definite answer.

This does not help me. I was asking you because it is difficult to reach my surgeon.
The brochure for the vibration device told me the same thing you did.
Not any help.

The answer is absolutely NO!! I have had two hip replacements and YOU can NOT ever be around any machine that vibrates, treadmills, stair masters or any other high impact exercise equipment. Every implant will loosen up at some point, why rush it? The glue will slowly denigrate, why push it to do so faster. My surgeon refuses to allow anything but the bicycle and swimming. You may do some yoga, stretching and walking on rubber tracks that some colleges and high schools have, but ONLY with special sneakers with custom fit padding. I started walking 1 mile a day for 2 months and now do 3 miles easily. Your natural shock absorber is gone, you have metal to bone, that is it! You can do an upper cardio for 30 minutes 3-5 times a week, but make sure you ask a personal trainer to sit you properly so that there is no impact to sitting at an angle while doing this. If you have any other questions please ask me, I loosen up my first one because I was never told any of this.
