Sent to Health Experts August 21, 2006 11:46 p.m.

My last 4 periods have been unusual, my periods in May and June were very heavy and very clotty. My periods in July and August weren't so heavy, but not ending. My doctor gave me pills to take to stop the bleeding in July which worked but started my period again approx. 2 weeks later. This month started my period and I'm still having spotting 20 days after my period started and I've been taking those pills again but they're not working to stop it completely. Any ideas what could be going on?

Hello,

You are suffering from hormonal imbalance for some reason. Are you under a lot of stress or emotional problems? Or have you started an exercise program or have started dieting? Change in the environment can aslo cause hormonal imbalance.

To get your hormones stable again you will need to take birth control pills for at least 3 consecutive months. Sometimes, it may be necessary to take them for 6 months.

If you continue toget irregular or heavy problems, you will need to get an ultrasound to see if you have any uterine polyps or fibroids which can also cause prolonged and heavy menstruation.

I hope this helps.
