Sent to Health Experts September 19 09:05 AM

As soon as I start to eat I get nauseated and sometimes vomit. This happens after just a few bites. I am better once I belge, but that doesn't happen until after I have gotten sick. I can eat sweet food and coffee and do not have a problem. I am having a harder time dispelling gas. Where as before I passed gas frequently.

You may find something like domperidone 10mg or metoclopromide 10mg helpful for your problem. These both act as 'gastric motility enhancers' so they encourage the stomach to work 'the right way'. If you have a sluggish stomach this may explain some of the problems.

Ensure you drink plenty of water and exercise too. Peppermint tea can be very helpful for dispelling gas, and you can now get concentrated peppermint oil capsules.

I am wondering if you have a problem with gastric motility. That is why I suggested domperidone. You mention about vomiting with food. If your problem was a stomach ulcer, then you are more likely to have symptoms without food and food would make you feel better.

Gas can be produced in sthe stomach by excess acid, however it is either burped/belched upwards or passes through the intestines until it is passed as flatuelence. If you are having problems passing wind at the rectal end, then this may also indicate reduction in intestinal peristalsis.

If the symptoms were acute, ie occurred very suddenly and were associated with pain then I would be concerned about intestinal obstruction. However the text of your question implies this has happened on several occasions.

If the medication does not help, then I would want you to see your doctor to discuss an endoscopy as this would allow your doctor to see the lining of the stomach and upper intestines.

Reply to Pauline's Post: It helps somewhat. I had speculated the same thing. I must say though that it did start suddenly a week ago. I also am wondering about my appendix possibly being the cause or sudden change in my hormones, menopause. I spoke with a gentleman and he had the same systoms after having a heart attack.I am find all through the day it only happens when I start to eat.

If your appendix was inflamed then you would have pain and tenderness in the centre of your abdomen which would move to the right with time. Also you may have a temperature and persistant vomiting.

Nausea associated with a heart attack again would not be occuring with food. Heart attacks tend to have left sided chest pain which radiates up into jaw or left arm. The pain can be severe and there can be sweating and feeling of doom. At 50 and female then it is unusual for a heart attack to be diagnosed unless there is a history of family problems or extremely high cholersterol and lipid values.

I have not heard of this being a problem with menopause but owing to the recent onset, it would be a good idea to see your doctor.

Regards
