I am a 48 year old woman at 280 lbs and I woke up this morning with tingleing in my right hand.    I also am a heavy drinker and when I walk to the second story of my home I'm out of breath. My blood pressure is normal and my blood sugars are normal. Is the tingleing an important sign??

How long did the tingling last - If this was only upon awakening and disappeared within a short time, it is possible that you were sleeping with your wrist bent - this is a classic sign of carpal tunnel syndrome. The tingling ffom carpal tunnel would be mostly the palm of the hand along with the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and adjacent side of the ring finger.
If there are other signs of tingling in the legs or face, you should see the doc.

The shortness of breath may be a sign of deconditioning - when you walk up and down the steps you use more energy and the muscles demand more oxygen. If you are out of shape, there will be an even bigger demand for oxygen. This may be more than your body can comfortably deliver, thus the faster breathing and feeling of breathlessness.

Since you are overweight [though you do not give your height] you may want to consider evaluation for an exercise program that would safely recondition the muscles and allow you to move about more freely.

If the tingling is still there, then I would suggest seeing your doc or a neurologist to determine the cause. As I said earlier it could be carpal tunnel, but usually that does not last all day. If there is any pain with the tingling, it is suggestive of nerve involvement as well. It is possible that you are developing an alcoholic neuropathy - nerve damage from excessive alcohol intake. This can either be a direct result of the alcohol or of vitamin B 12 deficiency due to poor nutrition habits. Again, for this you should see a doc. Alcohol should be avoided to prevent progression to other areas. For this you will need help.
