Both body fat and lean muscle are decreasing, why?

Sent to Health Experts January 13 05:04 PM

I started working out at a gym for the first time and started eating healthy. I am also working with a personal trainer. My weight and body fat percentage are both decreasing at a slower pace (I have lost 12 pounds in 3 months) but my lean muscle mass is also decreasing? I am worried that I am doing something wrong, Please Help and explain.

but why do both my body fat and lean muscle mass keep decreasing every time we use that "special scale". I have been measured 4 times and she has never saw this before. Normally as your body fat decreases you lean muscle mass should increase. Could there be any other answer??

The "special scale" uses the bioelecectrical impedance method of doing the calculation. I would believe that this is related to the inherent errors in this method of calculating body fat.

If you were malnurished (not getting enough protein in your diet) or had severe hypothyroidism this could cause a decline in lean body mass.
