10 days ago I had a surgical removal of a chalazion from my lower eyelid. That seems to be healing nicely on the inside of the lid. However, the eruption (or pimple) on the eyelid rim is still there and red. Is this normal? I thought that with the removal of the chalazion itself, the eruption on the rim would go down within a few days.

Hi,
There can be two reasons why the pimple has not gone-

  • After chlazion removal there might be some granulation tissue remaining in the lesion. This is specially the case, if the chlazion is long standing.
  • Other reason is that maybe the chlazion was not fully removed. This can happen if the whole material is not properly scooped out

I would advise you to do some hot fomentation on the area and take anti-inflammatories like motrin/tylenol for a few days. If it still does not go, then you might have to see your eye specialist again.

The above information is by an experienced Ophthalmologist (my wife)
