(Not a Health Question?)

I was on Clomid for 7 months. Did not take anything August

Sent to Health Experts September 26 10:40 PM

I was on Clomid for 7 months. Did not take anything August or September. August period was late almost 1 week. This month...it just did not show up so fertility specialist put me on birth control pills to regulate cycle. Hopefully cycle will start around Oct. 10. My question is...are birth control pills in your system after just taking them? We are wanting to do the IUI procedure and wondered if it would work or not? I am just confused.

As always, thanks for your help!
Tina

The pills are in your system within 24 hours of starting them and become fully effective over a period of a month snd once you are on them a month they have reached full effectiveness. But at the same time once you have started them on a daily basis the chances of fertility lessen more everyday so it would be best to wait until your cycles level out and you have stopped the pill to allow for the best chance of effectiveness.

Reply to Cheryl K.'s Post: So, say period starts on Oct. 10, we should not attempt anything until after Nov. cycle? With the IUI, I would have a CD 3 ultrasound and another one on CD 12. What exactly does the birth control pill do? Also, would you be able to tell by the u/s if you would be able to do the IUI or not?

Thanks again!

Yes that is correct, you should not attempt until after your November cycle. They will be able to see that everything was ready for the IUI but they may not be able to detech everything by the ultrasound but the tubes, ovaries, and cervix will show that all is in flow in according to the best time to perform the IUI. Birth control pills help to regulate your cycles so you can better predict how many day cycles you run, such as a 28 day cycle which is the average. With a 28 day cycle the best chance of pregnancy would be around days 11-14th day after the first day of your cycle which is the best time that your ovulation will be occuring. If the egg is not fertlized then your cycle is signaled to start after you have ovulated and another 28 day cycle starts from the first day of your next cycle and so on if that helps to better understand how the pill and your cycle work.
