My wife has has sinus problems for years and has sinus ...

Sent to Health Experts November 20, 2005 8:31 p.m.

My wife has has sinus problems for years and has sinus surgery in August of this year. She has been running a low grade fever since July (approx 101) The surgery went very well and they were able to open up all sinus cavities and drain most all infection. They did culture about two weeks later and said she still had an infection and a fungus. For the past 4 to 5 weeks they have had her on a medicine for both but she does not seem to be getting any better. Her ENT does not think the fever is related to the infection and/or fungus. Is this more than likely related or could the fever be something totally unrelated ? What other things could cause a low grade fever since July of this year ?

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy)

I would lean toward the fever being because of your wifes sinus issues. However, I cannot tell you that for sure. What you can do is ask the doctor to run a blood test for white cell count, and possibly a blood culture test to see if any bugs are growing in her blood stream. I would also ask for a culture to be done of the nasal drainage to see what is growing there now that she's been on medicines for several weeks.

I'm assuming you've been seeing an ENT for this doctoring. It might be time to ask for a consult to an infectious disease specialist as well. They may know of something new that can be tried, or think of something the other doctors haven't.

I am here for you if you have more questions, and I sincerely hope your wife feels better real soon.
