can you answer a question about meninhgitis?

My son has had a fever for the past two days with a bad headache and sore throat. Tonight he stated that his neck was stiff and had pain when moving it from side to side and up an down. He is 18 years old.....I am wondering if I should be concerned about the possibilty of meninhgitis and should take him to the ER tonight or just wait until tomorrow and take him to the doctor?
