MY DAUGHTER

Sent to Health Experts May 28, 2006 9:53 p.m.

HI,
MY DAUGHTER IS NINETEEN YEARS OLD. SHE HAS BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT HER RIGHT SIDE HURTING HER ON AND OFF FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS. SHE SAYS IT IS LIKE A SORENESS KIND OF PAIN. I ASKED HER ON A SCALE OF 1-10, HOW MUCH IT HURT HER AND SHE SAID 5 1/2. SHE CAN BRING HER KNEES TO HER STOMACH WITHOUT IT HURTING HER. SHE IS NOT RUNNING ANY KIND OF FEVER. SHE IS NOT NAUSEAOUS AND SHE SEEMS TO BE EATING OK. SHE DOES HAVE HER PERIOD RIGHT NOW, BUT INSISTS IT IS NOT CRAMPS. SHE DOES TAKE ESTROSTEP BIRTH CONTROL FOR HER PERIODS..I KNOW SHE HAS BEEN CONGESTED FROM ALLERGIES AND HAS BEEN SNEEZING ALOT. I THOUGHT MAYBE FROM ALL THE SNEEZING SHE PULLED SOMETHING. SHE MENTIONED APPENDIX IN PASSING, AND NOW THAT'S ALL I KEEP THINKING ABOUT. DO YOU THINK IT IS NECESSARY TO TAKE HER TO THE HOSPITAL, OR WAIT AND SEE IF IT GETS WORSE? SHOULD I WAIT TILL AFTER THE HOLIDAY ON TUESDAY AND TAKE HER INTO THE DOCTOR, AND IF SO WHICH DOCTOR, A GASTRO OR REGULAR? THANK Y0U, RHONDA KUPFER

Wow....

I just had a good friend go through this with her son who is 18. Same thing, no fever, but pain. She did bring him in on Friday and they found he had a burst appendix.

I don't mean to scare you, but it can happen without a fever sometimes. It could also be that her ovary has a cyst on it, or a kidney stone.

I would bring her in to find the cause. In this case I think it's better to be safe than sorry.

If you have a regular doctor, give them a call. If not, yes, I would take her in to the ER.
