In most cases, night sweats are caused by the release of stress hormones during the night in response to a frightening dream.
Occasionally, night sweats are a symptom of lymphoma or infection, however, they are usually accompanied by fever and unexplained weight loss. Infections, such as TB, AIDS, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, and abscesses all can result in night sweats. Antidepressant meds, Aspirin and Tylenol, and prednisone may cause night sweats. Also, hypoglycemia, pheochromocytoma, carcinoid syndrome, hyperthyroidism, post-traumatic syringomyelia, stroke, and autonomic neuropathy can cause night sweats.
