My 91 year old mother just moved in to an apartment nearby. The move was stressful and hot but we got her in (about a week now). She developed a pain near her ear and into her scalp that she says feels like "pins & needles" and hurts to the touch. I took her to my doctor yesterday who suggested stress and possible shingles outbreak as a result, though there are no sores (yet). This morning her pain she says has moved around the back of her neck and more into her ear. There were no signs of infection by my Dr. yesterday who said she appeared to be in remarkably good health for her age. My doc suggests taking her to ER for better tests; mom says she doesn't need to go there (she is not an irrational person and asks for help if needed). My question: With these symptoms (pain only, no fever or nausea or stroke symptoms) - should I rush her to ER when her local insurance coverage is not yet into effect, paying a large bill, or wait to see if she gets worse? I'm not used to deal with elderly or ill people. Could it be signs of annurism?
