Swollen Lymph Nodes and Fever Three Months
Sent to Health Experts July 29 11:15 PM

I have five swollen lymph nodes < 1 cm on the left side of my neck since the middle of April. Within a week of discovering the lymph nodes, I developed red patchy skin on the back of my left elbow and my thighs. For about a month my thighs and the top of my feet were very itchy. I had intermittment low grade fevers. The itching subsided except for the top of my right foot. About the middle of June I developed swollen lymph nodes in my right groin (about 1 cm) and the low grade fever became persistent and elevated. (The fever runs as high as 100.8 and I have had one every single day since June 26th.)

It is now the end of July. I still have the swollen lymph nodes in my neck and groin; the nodes have not gotten any bigger, but not any smaller. I have no pain and generally feel fine. However, the fever occassionally makes me feel a little under the weather.

My doctor has tested me for lupus and rhuematoid arthritis. Blood tests were negative. I had an ultrasound done on the left side of my neck and thyroid at the beginning of June. Lymph nodes were normal but I had a growth on my ithmus. I had a biopsy done on the growth which came back negative. I had a CT scan done a couple of weeks ago on my chest, abdomen and pelvis. Everything came back clear except a small mass on my ovaries.

My doctor has told me to call him back in a week. He wants to think about having me see an infectious disease doctor or having a pet scan.

Just looking for another opinion here. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Reply to 4ren6's Post: No, I have have not been tested for either disease, however I believe either of these diseases would make one feel tired and generally ill. Despite my symptoms, I feel fine - except a couple of days of 100+ fevers may make me feel a little under the weather.

OK, then your doctor is headed in the right direction. Infection of some type within your system is the reason for the infectious disease specialist and the pet scan........well not to scare you is normally for cancer or can also be used for further in-depth analysis.

I hit on the Epstein Barr as it seems to be some of your symptoms without regard to the being tired.

If he suggest one or the other I would try to get him to go with both.

With all the work that has been done and nothing showing up irregular there is little else to do or say.

I believe though you have some form of infection due to the fever and glands.

Sorry to not be more specific to your question.

Reply to 4ren6's Post: You are not scaring me with a possible cancer diagnosis. I had self diagnosed myself with non-hodgkins back in April. Always a bad thing that us amateurs try and do that! Anyway, I find it interesting that you and my doctor are going the infectious disease route.

If I feel fine, why would you think I have an infectious disease as opposed to cancer?

Thanks for your help,

Tina

That is called being optimistic in life...........I would go with infectious over cancer. And it may be neither.

Reply to 4ren6's Post: I asked for a second opinion and the response I have received is from the same gentleman from whom I had received the original response. Only this time, I am being asked if I need a nurse. I am thinking this is an internet scam. Why shouldn't I report this to the authorities?
