My 23 month old daughter awoke from her nap screaming

My 23 month old daughter awoke from her nap screaming and crying. Ichecked her whole body for sore spots and noticed that her glands in her pubic area appeared to be swollen she is still crying and agitated. She only seems to calm down when being held. what could be causing this?
