I had a leep procedure one week and 3 days ago and am still bleeding. I have gone back to my doctor twice who put some paste substance on the cervix which has stopped the bleeding for several hours, but it always starts again. Not filling a pad during 6 hours, but every time I urinate, it is deep red. I asked my doctor what would happen if he cannot stop this bleeding and he told me the only solution is a hysterectomy. Is this true and how long should I wait this bleeding out. No clots, just bright red blood.

Hey Dottie, The bleeding is not normal if it
has continued, but if you are taking anything
like Ibuprofen, aleve, aspirin,or a prescription
containing a blood thinner it may be making the
bleeding persist. If you are losing blood and it
reflects in your hemoglobin than it may be beneficial to have a hysterectomy, but if you
are unsure get a second opinion. Meanwhile, rest
don't do anything strenuous and if the bleeding is bright red and especially if there are any clots, than it is serious and should not wait for treatment.

Reply to Josie RN's Post: I have been taking Excedrin every day but he told me no problem, - would that do it you think? It is bright red but I would say right now I am bleeding about enough to soak 2 pads a day.

Hi,Sorry about the delay, I was at work.
Excedrin contains Aspirin. So I think you
should stop the Excedrin and take plain tylenol
and of course follow the directions for the
dosage. If you have been taking excedrin several
times a day you were getting enough aspirin to
possibly make the bleeding go on. Try skipping the excedrin and see if it's not better after 24hrs of being off of it. Than, see if bleeding tapers off. Still be on the lookout for low hemoglobin symptoms like lightheadedness, fainting or fast heartrate. Watch for clots and
using more pads. Rest and let your doc know if you have any of the symptoms or if you start to
run a fever >101. Drink alot of water and some
fruit juice to keep your volume up and if you have an appetite eats green leafy stuff and iron rich foods. Let me know!---------Josie

Reply to Josie RN's Post: Thank you so much! I stopped taking the Excedrin the moment I get your first reply and yesterday saw a significant improvement. Still bleeding a little, but nothing like before. I hope this stops completely within the next day or two.

Bless you!

Dottie
