Question

My 15 month old son was vaccinated last Tuesday.

Sent to Health Experts October 24, 2006 10:21 a.m.

My 15 month old son was vaccinated last Tuesday. On Friday evening he began running fever. (very low grade) He was very tired acting and sluggish. On Sunday he acted ok however he vomited late in the evening while eating. We are not sure if he had to much in his mouth or was sick because he continued to eat. On Monday afternoon he had three diarrhea diapers and then again on Tuesday moring two more. He is also teething. He is not sleeping and is very clingy and grouchy. My doctor is several miles away and he seems to think it is viral but it is a long process. The symptoms do not stay and he is playing. What do you think the problem could be??? Is it viral, teething or immunization related?

It is very likely a combination of all three that has him out of balance: teeting, immunization, and a viral illness. If he got the immunization last Tuesday, and has a viral illness as well as the teething, I would expect that he will start to feel better by the end of this week. The diarrhea should subside and his appetite and normal energy and sweet disposition should return. If he continues to act ill, or if the diarrhea continues, by Friday I would recommend you take him in for an exam.

As long as he is gradually improving, eating and drink enough, and playing, he will be fine.

Call the doctor if he has continued diarrhea, isn't eating or drinking well, starts to look dehydrated (dry lips & sunken eyes), or runs a fever for more than 1 day.
