Hello,
Concavity of the fingernails is a symptom of iron deficiency anemia.
Rheumatoid arthritis is very often associated with iron deficiency. This is because iron utilization is impaired, there is decreased response of the bone marrow to production of red blood cells, red blood cells tend to get destroyed earlier than normal, there may be suppression of the bone marrow by the medicines used in the treatment, there may be bleeding from the gut because of the painkillers used etc.
Iron deficiency will also cause splitting of the nails although sensitivity is likely to be due to associated neuropathy.
Please consult your doctor and ask for your hemoglobin level and total iron level to be examined.
