Something in my throat

I am a 22 year old female. In the past few days I have had trouble swallowing and it feels like something is in my throat. Today i stuck my finger back in my throat and at the base of my tongue below the hangy ball i have a large piece of skin or something back there. I can feel it when i swallow and am wondering if that is normal. What is that??? shoudl i have it checked out???
