what does it mean when your pinky and ring finger are numb?

about 6 months ago my neck hurt, then my fingers and toes started going numb. I have had a MRI and a muscle test done. Now the numbness and tingeling in my toes and fingers have gone I now have my pinky and ring finger that is always numb. Can this be serious?
