hi,my name is Customer (name blocked for privacy),i am a nursing student. i have a project due in 2 wk.i need help.(please). 65 years-old female was biiten by a cat on the dorsal of R hand @ 8am.@4;30pm,she noted pain and swelling in the finger & dorsum of the Rhand following by pain in axilla,rash up the forearm,and chills.ON the ER,she had 38C temperature,and upper extremity was notable for swelling,erythema,warmth,and tenderness onthe dorsum of the hand. 2small puncture wounds were visible on the proximal phalanx on the long finger and redness was visible over the extensor surfaceof the fore arm.tenderness was also noted.lab studies showed increased WBC's of 12,000/mm3 with a left shift if the presence of neutrophils in pheripheral blood.aspiration of an abscess in her finger was sent for culture, and the PT was taken to OR for incision and drainage of the abscess. an oxidaze+ gram - coccobacillus that grew on chocolate agar but not on macconkey agar was recovery from the abscess.
my questions are:
what is the reservoir of this organism?
what are the chances of a human being to get infected by it??/
how can it be prevented?
which other syndromes can it cause??
