Hello,

It appears you have tried just about everything. I would venture to say this is a result of neuropathy (nerve damage) Some patients report that the sensation was lessened when they changed to 100% cotton socks and wore regular shoes versus sneakers. Proper fiting shoes are also important. Other patients state wearing sandals also helped.

I know this is certainly frustrating. You might want to discuss orthotic inserts which are placed in your shoe with a podiatrist.

Here is some general info, let me know if you have questions:

The more common causes of burning feet are:

Many feet/toes just ache and burn at the end of a long day, especially in those who are on their feet all day or are overweight (mechanical overload)

Hot and sweaty feet can cause a burning foot sensation (and may be related to the mechanical overload problem)

Neuropathy that occurs in as a result of nerve damage can cause a burning feet/toes.

Other types of neuropathy (nerve damage) that can cause a burning foot include those that occur in chronic alcoholism, vitamin deficiencies (usually B) and heavy metal poisoning.

Blood disorders (eg thrombocytopenia, pernicious anemia) can cause burning feet/toes.

Erythromelalgia is a rare circulatory disorder can can cause burning feet/toes.

* Reflex sympathetic dystrophy or complex regional pain syndrome can follow trauma (including surgery) and cause a burning foot sensation

* nerve entrapments, such as tarsal tunnel syndrome, which is the compression of a nerve at the inside of the ankle joint can cause a burning sensation

* a localized burning sensation may be due to other specific problems. If its in the forefoot only, it could be metatarsalgia, Morton's neuroma or some other cause. Athletes foot or a fungal infection can also cause a burning sensation in the area of the infection.

* it could also be due to a sensitivity to chemical substances in socks and shoes (contact dermatitis)

Reply to Deborah's Post: This started about 5 yrs ago with a light tingling by by insted or top of my left foot almost on the left side, then with time, it got worst, it is unbearable, it goe away then comes back every 10-15 seconds, sometimes it's a burning saensation, it is not on my toes its just before to reach my middle and next two toes by the pinky, is this a common proble? have you heard about this? the ankle clinic was to give me 7 shots to kill the nerve and if no success, I would get operated and take out the nerve, according to the Dr, this nerve has no purpose at all, he showed me an illustration of the nerve on a plastic figure of a man

As you have been to the podiatrist, it would be a good idea to get a second opinion of sorts with a neurologist.
