Was there ANY injury that may not have seemed bad enough to even bleed? Is there any discoloration on the nail before falling off? Any other health problems?

There was never any injury to fingers or toes. The nails did turn white before falling off. Does not seem to bother him. He is in good health . Was a month premature, had all imunizations and only problem he has ever had is probable foot, hand, mouth disease. Dr. could not confirm but mother had it and Dr. suspected child had a month ago.

The only other thing I can think of is a probable deficiency of chemicals in his body, (vitamins, electrolytes, etc.) but that would, in theory, make them ALL fall off simultaneously.

There may have been a time he smashed them and you didn't even know about it, especially where they discolored before falling off. Us moms can't be everywhere at all times! :)

I would watch him and report it to your pediatrician if it happens again.
