Sent to Health Experts July 17, 2006 11:50 p.m.

Today when I was wiping after urination, I notice a small lump in my vaginal area. It is just as my hair line ends and not too far into my vaginal area. Last week, I was sick and had to take a powerful antibiotic that caused a UTI, which resulted in my having to take Cipro for 3 days. What do you think this could be?

Thanks for the additional info, Lizzie,

You may have a vaginal cyst or the beginning of a herpes sore, or other STD. Something like this is gonna need to be evaluated by your gynecolgist to determine nature of the lump.

Lizzie,

Yes.....that definitely puts you at a lesser risk, however some STD's such as herpes can lie dormant.

A vaginal cyst is a closed sac under the vaginal lining that contains a semi-solid material. They can range in size from the size of a pea to that of an orange.

Cysts may be tested with biopsy, but are often benign. Sometimes surgical removal is performed if the cyst is causing you problems. Usually cysts do not cause any significant symptoms. Again, you should check this with your gynecologist for definite diagnosis.
