numb finger

my son is living in Korea. He can only email me once a week. The last two weeks he says his right index finger on the inside has gone numb. He went to a dr. there and they said it would go away, but this is going on the third week. 1/2 his finger nail and 1/2 the finger on the inside are totally numb. what kind of dr should he see? He is 20 years old in good health, very skinny, 5'9" 140 lb. walks all day, doesn't ever smoke or drink (he is a mormon missionary) Thanks for any help you can give.
