I just found out my right pinky (fifth) finger has a boxer's fracture. I can't get a cast b/c I have finals coming up and it doesn't really hurt that bad. What would be the implications of just letting it heal the way it is?

It depends on if the fracture is displaced or not. When I say displaced I mean do the bones meet where the fracture is. If the bones meet where the fracture is it should be able to heal.

If the fractured is displaced, meaning the bones do not meet together where the fracture is, it will not heal correctly. I would imagine though if the fracture was displaced you would have a obvious deformity in your hand and be in a lot of pain.

That is what it comes down to. I would certainly give it every oppertunity to heal itself and to heal itself correctly.

I would certainly Ice the area frequenly. This will reduce swelling.

I have full range of motion and no bruising, however the knuckle appears flatter than that on the other hand. I have x rays, but I can't tell.

Well it dosen't sound like it is displaced. You might go to the hospital and get the x-ray report that would tell you.

I don't think it is displaced with that description. Your hand would look shorter over the outside of the hand. It would also look deformed.

Be sure to brace it. I hope this helps.
