I went walking today and my hands generally swell a little bit but today my ring finger around the knuckle by the hand looks to have a large blue bruise.

Reply to Alexander Irvine's Post: I walk 5 miles every 3 -5 days. The swelling is minumum. I take off all my rings before I take walks. I do not know why they swell but have read that it is not un common. I am in Australia so unable to contact my US doctor. The swelling was not anymore then usual today. The blue bruise like color was from the bottom of the ring finger to my thumb but after 15 minutes went to just the lower part of my ring finger and it is still there. I finished my walk about 4 hours ago. Ther is no other bruising and I am on no medications.

Hi.

Sounds like a small vein has burst in the finger in question.

The swelling is due to an increase in venous pressure - as is the small problem today.

I would not worry about this.
