I've recently had itchy red dots appear on my elbows, forearms, and lower legs. Not sure if it's an allergic reaction or something else.

Reply to Family Physician's Post: Started about 4 days ago on my left forearm and then by Sunday I noticed it on my right elbow and upper arm. I looks to have appeared on my lower left leg and ankle. They do feel raised if I run a finger over them. I haven't changed my food habits. I do live out in the country and have poison sumac around the house. I don't remember coming in contact, but did pick my dog up into my arms last Friday. Perhaps she was in contact with it. When I swim they appear as black dots under water, don't know it that helps.

I was looking online and came across mange mites. Dogs become infested with them. They said that they can be transfered to people, but that they will eventually die and the irritation will subside. Do you think this could be the cause seeing that I did have considerable interaction with my pet. If so, Any idea how long until they die and are no longer bothersome?

This could be the cause - and would be expected to resolve fairly quickly after the pet were treated.
