Hello and Welcome to Just Answer,

Yes, you can have recurrent pain and swelling behind your big toe when you have gout. In rare cases there has been small deposits of uric acid on the chest bones. It also can affect the instep, ankles, heels, knees, wrists, fingers, and elbows. The disease can progress through four stages.

Reply to Pam's Post: You mention that in rare cases it has been seen that uric acid deposits in the chest bones but i am not sure whether is it in the form of lumps it causes pain or is it just the bone it pains. Since already i have my big toe joint paining and at the same time i am having a small lump like thing on the chest bone which also pains when i put pressure on the lump. Since i have already been diagnosed that more uric acid content in the body is it the lump on the chest is due to uric acid ?

I can not say absolutely for sure, but most likely it is due to uric acid. Considering you have been diagnosed with increased uric acid in your body, it is very likely that is what it is.

Reply to Pam's Post: Well what i am afraid of is, i hope it is no cancerous growth.
I just want to make sure that it has nothing to do with any cancerous syndromes ?
Do you have any idea how long it takes to recover from this uric acid problem ?

These medications are sometime given to people that has had chemotherapy to lower uric acid levels. Taking these two medications help to prevent the occurence of cancer. So evidentally your doctor knows what he is doing by putting you on certain medications. To be on the safe side I would mention this lump on your chest and see if the doctor wants to take a look at it. There is not anyway I can absolutely for sure tell you that it is not cancerous, but with the medication you are on helps prevent this.

Yes these medications help lower the uric acid in your body which helps in the prevention of cancer. High uric acid levels can be a sign of a cancerous growth. I am not sure that this lump will ever go away if it is a build up of uric acid. But I would definately call or go see my doctor and find out if he needs to run anymore tests. Sometimes you can just call the doctors office and ask for the nurse. Explain your situation and she will talk to the doctor about it.

Thank you,
Pam Russell RN
