It sounds like you are having a contact dermatitis from something you touched. Possibly a toxic plant like lantana for example. If you have done any work outdoors that's a definite possibility. There are many things that can cause your dermatitis.

Contact dermatitis is a result of direct contact with any of various irritants or allergens. Common irritants that can cause your rash are laundry soap, skin soaps or detergents, and cleaning products. Allergens may include rubber, metals such as nickel, jewelry, perfume, cosmetics, weeds such as poison ivy, and neomycin, a common ingredient in topical antibiotic creams. It takes a greater amount of an irritant over a longer time to cause dermatitis than it takes for an allergen. If you're sensitized to an allergen, just a brief exposure to a small amount of it can cause dermatitis.

This can be so severe as to cause you a great deal of discomfort. The remedial treatment consists mainly to identify what's causing your outbreak and then avoiding it. Sometimes creams with hydrocortisone or moisture dressings that provide moisture to your skin may help relieve redness and itching. It can take as long as two to four weeks for this type of dermatitis to clear up.
