My 5 year old son got his hand on a silverplated small decorative item that was lightly tarnished and he put it in his mouth.   When I noticed this and took it away his lips and tongue were blue black. He seems ok but I am just concerned that the tarnish may be toxic. Do I need to be concerned?

No this is a natural oxidation process and it will not cause him harm. Silver has no known toxicity nor the oxidation of it. He will be fine. I would though place it as to where he can not reach for it again. You may reply if you need further assistance on this.

No lead. this is a chemical reaction only. Just wash his hands well with soap and he will be good to go.
