Sent to Health Experts February 25 01:15 PM

I have been told that I have a adrenal gland tumor 1.3 cent. Accidently found during a CT scan for GI problems. No one is monitoring this. I suffer from Anxiety/nervousness.Nervous shaking in body and hand (tremors) Excess sweating,Flushing,Heat intolerance,Irritability,Ringing in the ears, Severe onset of headaches that go away. Pain and weakness in the legs, sometimes loosing motor control.
(Rx 5mg Valium 3 times daily prn & 37.5 mg Effexor 1 time daily) (thought a higher dose of Effexor was a side effect, of tremors was the problem so lowered dose, Have never been diagnosed bipolar. Just 1 visit to a shrink and was handed 3 different meds for the primary to dispense)

Optional Information:
Female, Age: 54, Indiana

Already Tried:
nothing, just realizing that this may be the problem. I am tired of being my own doctor..

Shaky hands, late 90's. I really noticed what I call tremors in hands & body about 2003 when put on Effexor 37.5-75-150 worsened w/150. Weaned off. Doctor suggested to go back on 37.5 about 1 yr ago. I had a hysterectomy in 1986, and a final Ooferectomy in 1998. I kept thinking that the sweating and flushing was because of that. The headaches and I might add blurry vision has been within the last year. All I know is that.. Evidently.. the GI doctor found this tumor in a CT about 2005 along w/Hep C. I was told at the time that I should worry about it WHEN HE DOES. Since that time I was hospitalized 2006 for bacterial pnemonia and asked my primary for confirmation of both. I have chronic but stable hep C. very low virals and have had it over 30 years. Then also confirmed I had the tumor in the gland although conflicts in exact size, latest was 1.3 by something. I quit that GI doctor, because every 9 months he was doing scopes of upper and (waking up during the) lower at a reduced rate because of my insurance. He was using the scope to as he said, to straighten out some adhesions by my sigmond colon loop. I got fed up.. I went to the Un. of Chicago for my GI problems. I have a non-reducing haital hernia and Amitiza was prescribed for slow mobility. I am 54 years old. And am scheduled for my next primary doctor March 17. But, he is a very busy man and I am told often that I overwhelm him, so he wants to take 1 thing at a time. He is a great young practioner and really cares. But often if I don't try to get it altogether for him... he doesn't quite know where to go or which thing to tackle first. I have BCB's done about 1 time per year. But, those are so generalized. Really need to seek direction. I lost 11 months of work and a gallbladder 2002-2003. I lost 3 months of work w/pnemonia 2006. And I lost 4 months of work for GI problems 2007 til Jan 2008 NOW ARE YOU OVERWHELMED?

Well, I will agree that you have quite a few medical problems

I'm sure that you understand how difficult it is to know exactly what is going on with you considering the limitations of this forum. For that reason, I cannot diagnose you with any condition. Rather, I can suggest a few possible problems that fit the description you have given and educate you on them. This is in no way a substitute for an evaluation by a health care professional.

Given the symptoms that you have described, I think that rulling out a pheochromocytoma would be reasonable. Pheochoromocytoma is an adrenal tumor that can have the following symptoms:

  • Headache
  • Diaphoresis (sweating)
  • Palpitations (heart skipping beats)
  • Tremor
  • Nausea
  • Weakness
  • Anxiety, sense of doom
  • Epigastric pain (upper abdomen)
  • Flank pain (sides)
  • Constipation
  • Weight loss
  • As you can see, there are quite a few of these symptoms that you have. The work-up for this disorder involves urine metanephrines. This is a urine test that looks for breakdown products of catecholamines (adrenalin). I would discuss this workup with your doctor.

Let me know if you need any clarification.

The Hep C has not caused any problems, afterall I didn't even know I had it.
The only thing that you listed that I don't have is high blood pressure (147 tops)
I run on the low side.
Never paid attention to heartbeats except they do excellerate when I am hot.
    Headache-
(not often til lately quick & hard, thought it to be stress)
    Diaphoresis (sweating)-
(I am warm/hot most of the time, like a fever)
    Tremor-
(can't touch my nose and my legs just take off)
    Nausea-
(I write this off because of Amitiza makes me sick)
    Weakness-
    (can't hardly do anything w/muscles)
    Anxiety, sense of doom-
(Living in foster and childrens home atmospheres most of my life. I truely believe that God put me in this world for a reason and that he doesn't give you more than I can chew, but I am getting tired of chewing. I get actual fear & panic attacks now)
    Epigastric pain (upper abdomen)-
(never thought it was anything but GI, but my ulcers are gone and I take 2 prilosec daily)
    Flank pain (sides)-
(left side is killing me, that is the tumor side)
    Constipation-
(Amitiza takes care of that now)

I would like to tell you that my eldest sister died of kidney failure. The 2nd in line has been on dyalisis for 4 years now.

What type of specialist should seek out to get a ture comprehensive evaluation?

    Explain HPA.
I have what was at first diagnosed as impetigo. Then a dermatologist said it was dermatitus. It started about the size of a pea and blisters & itches and now is the size of a 1/2 dollar. I thought it was a spider bite. I have been treated with 2 different ointments and cannot handle either. Precautions:systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids has produced HPA axis suppression, manifestatios of Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia and glucosuria.I was first treated w/Bactrim & 2% mupirocin. It worsened it. Then stopped the ointment and took 1% hydrocoritsone & a z-pak. Then the dematologist gave me synalar .025 ointment. and I went back to the hydrocorisone cream. Allergic?? to ointments Anything to be concerned with my gland problem? 1/22, then 1/14 still not cleared up
