I have been experiencing headaches, swollen feeling in my throat and neck, and fatigue for 9 months. Many tests have been done- -Head, Sinus, and neck CT. All negative. Lab work recently done- EBV VCA IGG was 310.00, but the EBV VCA IGM was <10.0. I know that IGG is for past infection and I did have mono 4 years ago. What does an IGG of 310.0 indicate?

An EBV VCA IgG of 310.0 indicates you have a low Epstein Barr virus titer.

Capsid Antigen IgM less than 0.91 is negative, 0.91 to 1.09 is equivocal, and greater than 1.09 is positive for a current or recent primary infection with Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and are considered specific for the diagnosis of Infectious Mononucleosis. EBV-VCA IgM antibodies are detectable 1 to 6 weeks after the onset of disease and then decline during the next 3 to 6 months.

Reply to Dr. Hanson's Post: Thank you, but I already understood all of that info- I work in a hospital and have access to Lab info. My question is - does the EBV IGG tell me anything about my current condition or is the only thing that this indicates is the fact I had Mono 4 years ago? I had read about the possibility of it indicating certain types of cancer, but also that those are prevalent only in other ethnicities than I am. So I question why a test is done if it is only indicative of the past?
