Severed veins in hand

Sent to Health Experts September 06, 2005 1:24 a.m.

I believe I severed two veins on the back of my hand this morning,
under the skin. They blew up, and I had to use my left hand to put
direct pressure on them. I'm now wearing an ace bandage, but I'm
wondering, if they were completely severed, should I go see a doc,
or is there anything that could be done? My hand is purple from my
knuckles to my wrist, and it swells if I take off the ace and put my
hand below heart level.

I am not sure as to how you managed to severe the veins in your hands, but I feel that a visit to the ER is indicated since the blockage of vein drainage can lead to increasing swelling that may worsen. Worst case scenario, they will have to stitch them back, best case scenario, they will ask you to do what you have been doing, pressure bandage and limb elevation,
do remember to accept the reply if you find it useful,
