Good evening,
BOOP is an inflammation of the lungs. It stands for:
Bronchiolitis Obliterans Organizing Pneumonia
It presents like the flu, and then is diagnosed with chest xrays. Several lung diseases can mimic it, so it is hard to diagnose. Usually a lung specialist makes the diagnosis, and then the family doctor will monitor and treat. It occasionally goes away on its own, but most of the time it is treated with corticosteroids. The cause is usually idiopathic (or unknown), but sometimes it is from a virus, bacteria, cocaine, or certain meds like cancer treatment meds or heart meds.
