My father is 62 years old and is a type 1 diabetic. In the past his surgar level has allways been very high, in the last week it has been plumeting down as low as 23 in the morning before his shot. This has also happened in the midle of the night. He doesn't eat what he is supposed to and consumes large amount of sugar in a day. His doctor feels this is all due to stress and is not worried. We have called 911 3 times in the last week because he passed out from his surgar level dropping so fast (while he is eating and drinking surgary things) Why would this happen all of a sudden he is retired and has not had any change in his life to cause stress. Do you think that an infection could cause such a drastic change? Do I need to get him to see another doctor, which will be very hard, so we can get a 2nd opinion?
