kempten,

A high sed rate can indicate inflammation caused by an infection which can include pneumonia, pelvic inflammatory disease, appendicitis, and kidney, bone, joint, skin, or heart valve infections. It can also indicate some types of cancer, an autoimmune disease, or certain inflammatory diseases. Your doctor should do further testing to determine what the exact cause may be.

kempten,

Yes- it most definately could be related to lupus. Other conditions it can be due to are rheumatoid arthritis or polymyalgia rheumatica, chronic kidney failure, toxemia of pregnancy, and thyroid disease.
