I am concerned about inappropriate sinus tachycardia.

Sent to Health Experts April 27 09:21 PM

I am concerned about inappropriate sinus tachycardia. I usually have a resting heart rate about 75-90 bpm. Occasionally, it will be faster. Usually when I exercise it is in an appropriate range, however, sometimes when I just walk across the room it will jump up. Is this characteristic of IST?

A diagnosis of Inappropriate sinus tachycardia done by exclusion of other causes for sinus tachycardia. Some symptoms may be:

A resting Sinus tachycardia is usually (but not always) present. Your rate is high /normal depending on sex/age and weight.

Nocturnal dip in Heart rate

Inappropriate Heart rate response on exertion

Mean Heart rate in 24hrs >95bpm

Hypotension

Episodes of syncope (fainting) is occasionally reported

Symptoms related to tachycardia (dizziness, palpitaions, short of breath, anxiety, chest tightness)

If this happens frequently, is prolonged or is symptomatic a full cardiac work up is recommended.
