What could be causing swollen calves, ankles and feet? I was just diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and am on Toprol XL and Warfarin. What therapies can I use for my legs?

Hello,

I would call your doctor or cardiologist first thing in the mornong and report your symptoms as your symptoms could be related to your heart. Often CHF (congestive heart failure) will cause a build-up of fluid, so it is important to rule-out.

Discontine and monitor all sodium (salt) in your diet as this causes water retention. Continue to elevate your legs above your heart this evening as much as possible.

Perhaps your dcotr will deterime that in addition to the Toprol XL, you may also require a diuretic (water pill) to help reduct the edema (swelling).
