occasional irregular heart beat
Sent to Health Experts August 20 11:06 AM

I am 67 years of age 5'9"
200 lbs. Omnivor but favor less red meat. Energy and libido seem fine but tend to fall asleep easily if I'm just sitting.
I'm taking thyroid 15mlg tablet. This was recently raised over the last couple of months.

O also take herbal products for my kidneys, heart.

I have a tendency for my ankles to swell determined by soak mark imprints left after they've been on for awhile. I sweat easily and cannot sleep with pajamas.

Last couple of night I've had trouble going to sleep and staying asleep. Just wakeful, alert, my pulse seemed to be somewhat irregular slightly missing a beat every 10 to 12 times.

Blood pressure is around 7-74 to 140-7.

I took ambien last night got a good nights' sleep but I'm not sure how dependent one can get using these pills. Pulse this morning seems more regular with perhaps only the faintest hint at a hesitation.

Significance of insomnia and irregular beat? Thyroid related? -- can I miss thyroid medication for a day occasionally without a problem. Could I try a lower dose?

How much of a risk for dependency to ambien is there?

Thank you for your consideration.

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: My thyroid was checked a month and a half ago. I'm taking armour natural thyroid. i don't take ambine every night -- but perhaps once every 2 or 3 weeks. This week i took it twice. The slight irregularity of my pulse seems to be not present after a sound night's sleep. I see you are also an ayurvedic doctor so you will understand that I am also taking herbs such as creteva religiosa (varun) for frequent tendency towards urination. I do not have diabetes and regulate sugar intake. I also take Arjun for cardiovascular. I think i have noticed that when i take it regularly the swelling in my ankles is less. I'm also taking guggul and deer antler (chinese) -- called "sring" in Ayurveda.

Could the amount of thyroid cause pulse irregularity? So should I perhaps try to diminish by half the present amoung of thyroid. Have you heard of a rebound effect of the use of ambien from taking it say two nights in a row?

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: I'm also trained in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. As you know its not always so easy to treat one'self.

I've never seen any studies that state that either Ayurveda or TCM will successfully treat low thyroid, especially if there is a possible genetic component as there is in my case. Quality ayurvedic medicines are available in the US and I feel fine about those.

A solid night's sleep seems to have corrected the irregularity.

If you have any further advice or thoughts I would appreciate it but thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help.

Hello

Well i have got my trainig in research institiute of DABUR in india .My boss there had 15-20 documented cases of hypothyroidism where there were results in patients with elevated TSH levels upto 80 to normal within 3 months of taking Septillin (which contains maximum gugglu than any other classical preparation).I agree there are not any research paper. But what i am telling you is more of clinical observation.

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: I really appreciate having gotten you as my consultant. If you come across the documentation about the use of guggle for hypothyroid or any related, I'd appreciate it.

Does ayurveda have any formula or herb that might be comparably as reliably effective as ambien?
