hands going numb
Sent to Health Experts October 01 11:17 PM

In pressure situations my hands go numb and my heart feels like it is going to beat out of my chest. I have had atriall fibrillation before and suffer from massive heartburn alot. Are these things tied together? I ahev never noticed these symptoms prior to the A fib.

Hello,

Stress or pressure situations can cause heart burn and atrial fibrillations. Stress causes the classic 'Fight or Flight situation'. When the brain recognises a potentially dangerous situation, it increases the flow of adrenaline in the blood, readying the body to either fight the danger or flee from the danger.

It is possible that you had heart burns and palpitations even before the atrial fibrillation but never noticed it. It is also possible that your reactions to stress has increased after the diagnosis of AF. The hands going numb is also a sign of acute stress.

If you have these episodes very often, you need to discuss them with your doctor who can prescribe a drug to decrease anxiety. Acute palpitations are not good for the heart.

I hope this helps.

I only get the numbing hands and really fast heart beat when I am playing an important game i.e. sports or poker - how do I know what is normal and what is potentially a problem and what should I do about it?
