The causes of numbness are-

  • compression of nerves e.g. disk herniation.
  • blood supply being compromised due to atherosclerosis
  • stroke or TIA transient ischemic attack
  • diseases like diabetes and thyroid disorders can also cause this
  • Shingles can also cause this symptom

These are some of the common causes which can cause numbness and need to be ruled out. I would suggest you to go for a complete checkup and concerned tests including those for cholesterol. Hope this has been useful.
